When is the best time to buy a home in the Bay Area?

The best time to buy is often in late fall or winter when competition is lower, and prices may be more negotiable. Spring and summer tend to have more inventory but higher bidding competition.

The spring and early summer months are typically the best times to sell, as buyer demand is highest, often resulting in faster sales and better offers.

While 20% is ideal to avoid PMI (private mortgage insurance), many lenders allow lower down payments starting at 3-5%. In the Bay Area’s high-cost market, saving a larger down payment can improve your competitiveness.
